“Expert Reveals Britain’s Top 10 Burglary Hotspots”

Published on

Britain’s largest burglary hotspots have been exposed in recent data, allowing individuals to verify if their locality is included. Over 245,000 burglaries were documented in the 2024-25 fiscal year, with the majority targeting residential properties, as per the latest property crime statistics from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

As the winter season nears, experts caution that autumn and winter witness a surge in break-ins, with a 38% increase recorded in some regions between October and December. A recent report by insurance brokers Alan Boswell Group identified areas with high burglary rates and provided three essential tips for securing homes.

Analyzing the fire and property risk statistics report by Alan Boswell Group, certain council areas reported the highest number of burglaries per 1,000 daytime population. Notably, the daytime population encompasses residents, visitors, and commuters.

Contrary to assumptions, the risk of burglary is not solely tied to an area’s crime reputation but varies based on local factors like foot traffic, housing density, and opportunities. The top 10 list of burglary hotspots includes both affluent areas like Kensington & Chelsea and less affluent regions like Middlesbrough, emphasizing that burglary patterns are not solely economically driven.

It highlights the importance of robust security measures and tailored risk assessment for individual properties to counter burglaries effectively. Statistics reveal that most burglaries occur between midnight and 6 am, with a significant portion happening in the afternoon when homeowners are typically away at work.

Heath Alexander-Bew, Director at Alan Boswell Group, advised strengthening access points with high-quality locks and secure windows to deter potential intruders. Enhancing home visibility with motion-activated lighting and displaying security systems can also act as deterrents. Additionally, securing valuables, marking gifts, and promptly reporting incidents to the authorities are crucial steps in preventing and addressing burglaries.

For immediate response during a burglary, individuals are advised to dial 999, while reporting past incidents warrants calling 101. This ensures a crime reference number for insurance purposes.
