Virgin Media has emerged as the top choice for households seeking superior broadband speeds, reliability, and consistent service quality, according to a recent study by Opensignal. The UK Internet Service Provider (ISP) outperformed its competitors in all tested categories, including Download Speed, Upload Speed, Video Experience, and Consistent Quality.
Andrey Popov, Principal Analyst, highlighted Virgin Media’s leading position in broadband experience metrics amidst the UK’s shift to full-fibre networks. The provider’s upgraded cable-to-fibre network showcased exceptional performance, particularly in Download Speed (187.8Mbps) and Reliability Experience (747 points), surpassing rivals relying on the Openreach wholesale platform.
Following Virgin Media, Vodafone claimed the second spot overall, excelling in various categories due to its unique dual-network strategy, leveraging both Openreach and CityFibre networks. In contrast, most ISPs operate on a single platform, giving Vodafone a competitive advantage.
Notable mentions go to BT, ranking third in Consistent Quality and Download Speed, and Sky, recognized for its strong Video Experience, securing the second position in this domain.
On the flip side, Three ranked at the bottom of the list, scoring poorly in Consistent Quality, Upload Speed, Video Experience, and Reliability Experience. Meanwhile, TalkTalk lagged in download speeds, averaging 55.1Mbps compared to Virgin Media’s impressive score of over 180Mbps.
