Welch faced charges of child-endangerment and child-stealing, but the case was dropped just before trial in 1987 due to insufficient evidence and the absence of Theresa’s remains. Detectives revealed Welch’s unwavering belief in Bigfoot and his claims of ongoing contact with a tribe of these creatures.

With Welch passing away in 1998, aged 54, any potential secrets he held about Theresa’s disappearance remained undisclosed. The recent resurgence of interest in the case is due to a new documentary series called “Bigfoot Took Her,” which delves into Theresa’s final moments, features interviews with previously silent witnesses, and reviews old police records.
