A musician, identified as Matt Johnson from Ewloe in North Wales, gained fame in 2002 through the ITV series Pop Stars: The Rivals as a member of the boy band One True Voice. Despite the band disbanding the following year, Matt continued his music career and now boasts over 250 million streams on Spotify. Recently, Matt’s heroism came to light when he saved a man’s life in Queensferry.
While driving his VW Transporter on Chester Road West, Matt noticed a man in distress hanging from a footbridge. Acting swiftly, he parked his van underneath the bridge just as the man dropped onto the roof. Emergency services arrived promptly, rescuing the man from the precarious situation.
Matt shared the dashcam footage of the incident on social media to raise awareness for Men’s Mental Health Month. However, the act of heroism left his van damaged. Despite potential financial implications, Matt expressed no regrets about his actions, emphasizing that he would do it again if needed.
Acknowledging the damage to his van, Matt mentioned the challenges he faced in resolving the repairs, hoping for assistance from North Wales Fire and Rescue. The community lauded Matt for his selfless deed, with many suggesting setting up a fundraising page to cover the repair costs.
As the situation unfolds, Matt remains hopeful for support from the emergency services. Direct Line, Matt’s insurance provider, offered assistance, but the resolution remains uncertain without involvement from the authorities. Efforts to reach North Wales Police and North Wales Fire and Rescue for comments are ongoing.
