A man in Brazil tragically lost his life after being crushed by a one-ton cow that fell through the roof of his house while he was sleeping. Joao Maria de Souza was in bed with his wife when the cow unexpectedly crashed through the asbestos roof and landed on top of their bed. Although his wife escaped unharmed, Joao suffered a broken leg and later succumbed to internal bleeding, resulting in his death the following day.
The incident, which occurred in Caratinga, southeastern Brazil, prompted an investigation by the Civil Police of Vale do Rio Doce. Joao’s mother expressed her disbelief and grief over the unusual circumstances of her son’s death, emphasizing that he had overcome serious illness in the past only to meet such a tragic end. This marked the third such incident in the area within three years, although no other fatalities had been reported previously.
While Joao’s relatives lamented the delay in medical attention that may have contributed to his death, they also highlighted the unexpected nature of the incident. The cow involved in the accident emerged unscathed from the ordeal. Previous incidents in the region had resulted in no injuries, with the most recent one involving a baby and a young child narrowly escaping harm.
The area where these incidents took place is known for its hilly terrain and is renowned for cattle farming and dairy production. The community was left shocked by the freak accident, underscoring the unpredictability of such events.
