Published on

After being stabbed in an incident at Huntingdon train station, a rail worker named Samir Zitouni, aged 48, has been released from the hospital today. The attack, which occurred on November 1, left Zitouni with severe injuries, placing him in critical condition until his discharge. British Transport Police confirmed his release and stated that he will now continue his recovery at his residence.

Expressing their gratitude for the overwhelming support received from the public, Samir’s family acknowledged the kind words and praised his courageous actions during the assault. Despite their joy at having him home, they highlighted the significant journey to recovery ahead and requested privacy for their family during this time.

During the attack, Samir sustained serious injuries while safeguarding passengers. Employed by LNER for over two decades, he is credited with saving multiple lives by confronting the assailant, reportedly utilizing a frying pan in the process. Following the incident, Samir was one of 11 individuals treated at the hospital.

In recognition of his bravery, calls have emerged for Samir to be honored. Shadow Secretary of State Richard Holden MP penned a letter to Minister of State MP Darren Jones, advocating for formal acknowledgment of Samir’s “acts of selfless and outstanding bravery.” Holden highlighted Samir’s long-standing service and described his actions as an embodiment of gallantry in civilian life.

Anthony Williams, aged 32, faced charges of 10 counts of attempted murder in connection with the incident and was remanded into custody after appearing in Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on November 3. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 1 at Cambridge Crown Court.
