Piers Morgan has publicly apologized to Alastair Cook after 11 years of criticizing the former England cricket captain. Morgan had been vocal in his disapproval of Cook, particularly for his perceived role in Kevin Pietersen’s exclusion from the national team back in 2013.
In a social media post at the time, Morgan had called Cook a “repulsive little weasel” and criticized his leadership during a challenging Ashes tour. Despite initially stating he would never apologize to Cook or Sir Andrew Strauss, England’s former cricket director, Morgan has now reconciled with Cook on a recent episode of The Overlap and Betfair’s Stick to Cricket show.
Morgan explained that his previous strong remarks stemmed from his admiration for Pietersen and disappointment in how his situation was handled. He expressed regret for his past behavior towards Cook, acknowledging that he may have gone too far with his criticism.
Cook, who continued to excel in his cricket career following Pietersen’s departure, amassed an impressive record of 12,472 test runs and 33 centuries during his five additional years with the England team. He has previously described the fallout from Pietersen’s exit as one of the most challenging periods of his career.
