James Watson was devastated nearly a year ago when he received a heartbreaking phone call informing him of the tragic death of his close friend, Zacharias Atkinson, also known as Puddy, in a workplace accident at Langton Dock in Bootle. Merseyside Police were alerted to the incident, but Puddy was pronounced dead at the scene.
To honor the memory of Puddy, who passed away at the age of 19, James, a 20-year-old from Norris Green, has decided to organize a significant fundraising event for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital on the first anniversary of Puddy’s passing. James and Puddy had been friends since their school days at West Derby School in Tuebrook, forming a strong bond over the years.
Recalling their friendship, James mentioned that they were part of a close-knit group of 16 friends who had known each other since they were 11 years old. Puddy was described as someone who cherished his friendships, had a passion for Liverpool FC, enjoyed football, and had a special love for his family.
James vividly remembered spending time with Puddy just before the tragic accident occurred. The news of Puddy’s passing had a profound impact on their friend group, with James recalling the heart-wrenching moment when they were informed of the tragedy.
In an effort to bring some positivity to a challenging year for Puddy’s loved ones, James plans to run 325 miles during December, wearing a Santa hat, to raise funds for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Reflecting on the past year, James expressed his desire to uplift spirits and support a good cause during a difficult time, highlighting the significance of commemorating Puddy’s life through this fundraising initiative.
