British tennis player Emma Raducanu had to withdraw from her match against Ann Li in Wuhan due to health reasons. Following a medical evaluation by the WTA physio and tournament doctor, the 22-year-old made the difficult decision to retire.

Raducanu was trailing 6-1, 4-1 against her opponent when she experienced health issues. Ann Li expressed her well wishes for Raducanu’s speedy recovery, noting that it seemed like Raducanu was not feeling well during the match.

Despite starting strongly by breaking her opponent in the opening game, Raducanu began to struggle, showing signs of dizziness before receiving medical attention. Ann Li seized the opportunity, winning six consecutive games and ultimately leading to Raducanu’s retirement from the match.

The challenging playing conditions in Wuhan, with high humidity at 60% and temperatures around 35 degrees, added to the difficulties faced by the players. Raducanu’s withdrawal adds to a recent trend of players retiring or withdrawing from tournaments, with Iga Swiatek criticizing the demanding tennis schedule.

Looking ahead to her participation in the Wuhan Open, Raducanu admitted to finding it tough to accept recent disappointing results, including losses to Barbora Krejcikova and Jessica Pegula. She expressed her goal of securing a seeded position at the Australian Open in the coming weeks to improve her performance.
