“MP Wes Streeting Jokes About Becoming Prime Minister in Resurfaced Video”

Published on

Wes Streeting has openly acknowledged his long-standing concern that his “sense of humor” might one day cause him trouble after a resurfaced video clip of him joking about becoming Prime Minister was played on live radio. The Health Secretary, amidst recent denials of orchestrating a leadership challenge against Keir Starmer, made the light-hearted prediction in a 2018 video that resurfaced at a time when rumors of a leadership contest against Mr. Starmer were swirling.

During a recent LBC interview, Nick Ferrari, the host, decided to have some fun by playing the clip to Mr. Streeting live on air. Despite the playful moment, the Cabinet minister laughed it off and accused the radio presenter of an unexpected move.

Reflecting on the situation, Mr. Streeting humorously remarked, “It will be my sense of humor that will ultimately be my downfall one day, but if you don’t believe in yourself, who will? That’s the advice I give to the young people in my constituency.” He further explained that sometimes jestful comments can unexpectedly resurface during serious discussions, as was the case on the radio show with Ferrari’s unexpected move.

In the video clip, Mr. Streeting playfully responded to a question about who would be Prime Minister in ten years, suggesting it could be himself. Meanwhile, amidst internal strife within the government, Mr. Streeting found himself denying coup allegations against Mr. Starmer, as Downing Street tried to bolster the Prime Minister’s position amid growing uncertainties.

In the LBC interview, Mr. Streeting expressed shared frustration with Mr. Starmer over the leadership turmoil affecting the government. He defended his rapport with top adviser Morgan McSweeney and emphasized the need to focus on critical issues rather than internal conflicts. Mr. Streeting dismissed claims of plotting a leadership challenge, emphasizing the counterproductive nature of such rumors.

Comparing the internal discord to a TV show scenario, Mr. Streeting likened it to a dramatic twist, reiterating his support for the Prime Minister. Keir Starmer also addressed the situation, denying any Downing Street briefings against Mr. Streeting and asserting his commitment to addressing any misconduct effectively.
