A tragic incident in Maharashtra, India, resulted in the death of a 12-year-old girl who was allegedly made to do 100 sit-ups by her teacher for arriving late to class. The young girl, identified as Kajal Gond, developed severe back pain after being forced to wear her schoolbag during the punishment. The incident occurred on November 8 and has sparked outrage among parents and community members.
Following the corporal punishment, Kajal’s health deteriorated rapidly, prompting her family to rush her to a hospital in Nalasopara and later transfer her to Mumbai’s JJ Hospital, where she eventually passed away. Her father, Sunil Gond, expressed anguish over the treatment his daughter received, stating that no child should be subjected to such punishment for tardiness.
Local residents and parents are demanding strict action against the teacher and the school administration. Community activist Meena Patil condemned the incident, labeling it as cruelty rather than discipline. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has threatened to shut down the school until criminal charges are pressed, emphasizing the need for justice to be served.
Furthermore, education advocates are advocating for enhanced enforcement of child protection laws and improved training for teachers to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future.
