“UK woman seeking violent death found in Florida grave”

Published on

A woman from the United Kingdom was discovered in a shallow grave in Florida, reportedly pursuing a violent death with a man she met on a fetish website. Identified as Sonia Exelby, 32, from Portsmouth, she had flown to the U.S. seeking individuals willing to end her life violently, as stated in a Florida police report.

The authorities located her remains in a woodland grave in Marion Oaks, Florida, shortly after she missed her return flight on October 13. A post-mortem examination indicated that she succumbed to four stab wounds.

Dwain Hall, 53, has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder and kidnapping charges, which he denies. If convicted, he could face the death penalty. Officials claim that Hall and Sonia connected through a fetish website, with documents suggesting that Sonia had suicidal intentions and traveled to the U.S. anticipating possible abuse, torture, and murder.

Allegedly, Hall picked up Sonia from Gainesville Regional Airport upon her arrival from the UK and transported her to an Airbnb in Reddick, Marion County, which she had booked using her credit card before her U.S. arrival. Prior to her arrival, it is reported that Hall purchased gun cleaner, rope, and a shovel from a nearby store.

Following her departure from the UK, a concerned friend sought help, informing Sonia’s Instagram followers about her vulnerable state. The friend expressed worries about Sonia’s mental health and the precarious situation she had entered, emphasizing her vulnerability.

An affidavit revealed that Hall initially denied knowing Sonia but later admitted to driving her to the Airbnb. In a video recording, Sonia was observed with bruises on her face, neck, and breasts. Sonia purportedly expressed a desire to be fatally stabbed and voiced feelings of worthlessness, indicating a desire to suffer.

Detectives noted Sonia’s trepidation and distress in the video, suggesting a change of heart in the twisted plan but a lack of escape routes. Messages exchanged between Sonia and a friend on an online platform indicated her fear and desperation to find a way out of the situation.

Hall reportedly confessed during a police interview that he and Sonia had discussed bondage, suicide, and her wish to be killed. He was apprehended after attempting to use Sonia’s credit cards post her demise. Investigators discovered a package sent by Hall to a friend in Ohio containing a blade with Sonia’s blood and a shovel with her DNA.

During a court appearance, Hall was informed that due to the substantial evidence against him, he would not be granted bail. His lawyer entered a not guilty plea, awaiting further legal proceedings. The Foreign Office has been working with authorities in Florida to assist Sonia’s family during this tragic incident.
