Former Olympic coach Vicente Modahl, who previously worked with Team GB athletes, is facing charges related to alleged child sex offenses and rape. The 65-year-old Norwegian, who is married to ex-Olympic middle-distance runner Diane Modahl, has been accused of two instances of child rape and five counts of child sexual assault.
Jose Vicente Leiva-Modahl, as he is formally known, resided in the UK before these charges were brought against him. In addition to the aforementioned charges, he is also facing accusations of two counts of inducing a child into sexual activities and two counts of child penetration assault.
The Crown Prosecution Service has disclosed that Modahl is facing a total of 19 charges, spanning from 2012 to 2024. These charges encompass offenses such as adult female rape, adult female sexual assault, coercive behavior, and more. James Bolton-Smith, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for the CPS’s Organised Child Sexual Abuse Unit, stated that Modahl is set to appear in Manchester Magistrates Court soon.
Modahl, who has a background in coaching British and international athletes, including Team GB members and an Olympic gold medalist, has been in the sports industry for many years. He is also noted for his FIFA-licensed sports agent work, as indicated on his LinkedIn profile.
The CPS emphasized the importance of respecting the legal process and ensuring a fair trial for the accused. They cautioned against any actions that could potentially prejudice the ongoing legal proceedings.
