A man suspected of sexually assaulting a child in France has been apprehended in Liverpool, announced the National Crime Agency (NCA). Sujanth Ketheeswararasa, a Sri Lankan national aged 30, was captured by authorities from the NCA’s National Extradition Unit in Liverpool city center following an investigation that led them to his location. The NCA stated that Ketheeswararasa is accused of committing a sexual assault against a young girl in France and is being sought by the French authorities.
Clare Meehan, representing the NCA’s Joint International Crime Centre, emphasized the organization’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding children from sexual exploitation. She expressed, “There is no higher priority for the NCA than ensuring the protection of children from sexual abuse. Through collaboration with domestic and international partners, we successfully located and apprehended the suspect.”
On Thursday, Ketheeswararasa made a court appearance in London and was detained in custody as extradition proceedings were initiated. The 30-year-old is scheduled to virtually appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 27.
A comprehensive extradition hearing is set for March 26, 2026.
