Man in Wales Impersonates Admiral During Remembrance Event

Published on

A man has been identified by police for allegedly impersonating an admiral during a wreath-laying event on Remembrance Sunday, causing public concern. Jonathan Carley, aged 64 and residing in the Harlech area of Gwynedd, Wales, is accused of pretending to be an admiral by donning a naval uniform at the ceremony. Witnesses observed the individual saluting the war memorial while wreaths were being placed.

The individual in question was reportedly wearing a naval uniform adorned with 12 medals, a move deemed disrespectful to veterans by the Royal Navy. Notably, the alleged impostor was seen wearing the Distinguished Service Order, a decoration typically awarded to infantry officers. It’s worth noting that no active Royal Navy officer has received the DSO in over three decades.

Subsequently, the suspect has been charged with unauthorized use of uniform/dress bearing the insignia of His Majesty’s Forces. The individual is set to appear at Caernarfon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, December 11.

Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan commented on the matter, acknowledging the significant public concern stemming from the incident, especially given its timing on Remembrance Sunday. In response to reports received by North Wales Police, prompt action was taken to arrest the individual and press charges.

The public is urged to refrain from engaging in online speculation or sharing content that could potentially impact future court proceedings. Stay informed with the latest news by subscribing to email updates for top stories of the day.
