“Usyk Announces 2-Year Boxing Extension, Fury Rematch Looms”

Published on

Oleksandr Usyk has provided a significant boost to Tyson Fury by announcing his intention to continue boxing for the next two years. Earlier this year, the 38-year-old outlined his retirement plan, indicating that he had two more fights left before ending his career. In a remarkable victory back in July, Usyk defeated Daniel Dubois in front of a massive crowd at Wembley Stadium, securing his second undisputed heavyweight championship.

Following his recent triumph, Usyk is taking a break for the remainder of the year to spend quality time with his family before resuming his boxing career in 2026. Despite being mandated to defend his WBO title against Joseph Parker post his win over Dubois, the fight has been postponed due to medical reasons. Usyk’s team successfully appealed for a 90-day extension, granting him more time to prepare.

In an interview with UNN, the Ukrainian fighter shared his return to training as he prepares for his comeback next year. Usyk expressed his determination to step back into the ring and achieve victory with the help of divine intervention. Contrary to his previous retirement plans, Usyk now aims to retire at the age of 41 and establish a sports academy for training purposes.

Fury, who had previously announced his retirement after losses to Usyk, confirmed his comeback next year. Promoter Frank Warren indicated Fury’s eagerness to continue competing, emphasizing the focus on a potential rematch with Usyk rather than other contenders like Anthony Joshua. While a showdown between Fury and Joshua remains a possibility, Warren stressed that Fury’s priority is a third encounter with Usyk.

The upcoming boxing event featuring Kieron Conway and George Liddard at York Hall, Bethnal Green, is scheduled for Friday, October 17. The main undercard is set to start at 7pm UK time, with the headline fight expected around 10pm UK time. Viewers can catch all the action live on DAZN, a popular streaming platform accessible through various devices with flexible subscription options.
