The loved ones of a man from the UK who passed away following dental and hair transplant procedures in Turkey have honored him as the source of their warmth and joy.
Mentor Rama, aged 36, traveled to Istanbul for these treatments but fell ill upon returning to his hotel room. Emergency services were called, and Rama was taken to a nearby hospital where he tragically passed away on November 11.
Following his death, Rama’s body was transferred to the Council of Forensic Medicine in Istanbul, prompting a police investigation into the incident.
A representative from the FCDO mentioned, “We are assisting the family of the deceased British individual in Turkey and are coordinating with local authorities.”
Expressing their grief on a family member’s public Facebook page, a message conveyed the profound loss felt, highlighting Rama’s role as a beacon of light and strength for them.
Rama’s remains have been repatriated to the UK, as confirmed by Turkish media reports. Turkey is a popular choice for Britons seeking cost-effective cosmetic procedures, despite cases of individuals not returning home.
According to the Foreign Office, at least 28 British citizens have died in Turkey after elective surgeries between March 2019 and March 2024. Turkey is renowned for offering “medical tourism packages” attracting individuals seeking affordable options, such as “Turkey teeth” procedures, which are notably cheaper compared to the UK. However, concerns have been raised by dentists regarding potential complications associated with such procedures in Turkey.
