Three in every ten Brits exhibit a higher level of familiarity with Donald Trump compared to Prince Charles, as per a recent study involving 2,000 adults. The research indicates that 30% of participants possess as much knowledge about American pop culture as they do about their own. Furthermore, the study reveals that 40% of the daily information consumed by individuals in the UK originates from the US, with 23% showing a preference for Taylor Swift’s music over Dua Lipa’s.
Interestingly, almost one in ten individuals are more informed about the romantic lives of actors Zendaya and Tom Holland than they are about the Royal family. This percentage increases to 29% among individuals aged 18 to 24. Additionally, a significant 34% of the younger demographic demonstrate a higher level of understanding about the Kardashians than the popular TV show “EastEnders.”
A representative from Lottoland.co.uk, who conducted the survey in line with the US £520 million Powerball draw, commented, “There is an abundance of captivating US culture readily available for consumption.”
The spokesperson added, “From television, movies, and music to cuisine and beverages, the US offers a plethora of elements that have transcended to the UK. Even politics serves as a prominent topic of discussion.”
The study also highlights that 18% of participants prefer watching American TV shows over British options, with drama, comedy, and crime emerging as the favored genres from the US.
Regarding music from the States, pop, rock, and country genres dominate, with 88% of respondents indicating an appreciation for some form of American culture in their British lifestyle.
Apart from television and music, Americans foods (37%), books (24%), and sports (17%) are enjoyed by Brits. Furthermore, 15% partake in celebrating Thanksgiving in the UK, while one in ten commemorate Independence Day on the 4th of July.
Additionally, the survey reveals that Netflix, Hollywood blockbusters, and Coca-Cola are considered the top contributions from America, closely followed by Rock and Roll, Disneyland, and instant coffee.
