A man in his twenties faces charges in connection with a tragic knife assault that led to the death of a mother of four and left her husband injured in Cork, Ireland. A spokesperson for the Garda confirmed that the male suspect in his twenties, who was taken into custody at the scene, has been charged and is scheduled for a court appearance at Cork City District Court this afternoon, on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

Law enforcement officers responded to the residence on the south side of the city just after 9 p.m. on Monday, with Armed Support Units dispatched to the location. Local residents reported hearing distressing screams coming from the house, typically a quiet neighborhood, prompting immediate calls to emergency services.

Mrs. Gallagher was employed as a chemical engineer at a pharmaceutical company. In light of the tragic event, a family liaison officer has been assigned to assist the bereaved relatives, and an incident room has been established at Angelsea Street Garda Station under the supervision of a senior investigator.

Councillor Peter Horgan expressed the somber sentiment prevailing in the community following the incident. He conveyed his condolences, highlighting the tragic impact on the victims and their extended family. Acknowledging the commencement of the police investigation, he emphasized the need to provide space for the authorities. The incident has left a heavy atmosphere over the entire parish, reflecting a profound sense of sadness.

An appeal for witnesses has been issued, urging individuals who were in the Shrewsbury Downs area of Ballinlough between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025, to come forward with any relevant camera footage, including security camera recordings and dash-cam footage, to aid the ongoing investigation.
