The 31-year-old, known as ‘The Magnet’ during competitions, earned his place by winning three titles on the ADA Tour and claiming the top spot in the rankings. Pusey had previously competed in televised World Series events without using a nickname, but his recent success might prompt a nickname-related discussion with tournament officials.

In a similar situation, World No 80 Owen Bates had to change his nickname from ‘The Master’ after it was deemed inappropriate by the PDC when he qualified for the World Darts Championship in 2023. Despite the challenge of altering a well-known moniker, Bates acknowledged the necessity of adhering to the regulations.

Luke Littler, the reigning champion, is set to defend his title at Alexandra Palace in December after defeating Michael van Gerwen earlier this year. The tournament, scheduled to commence on December 11 and culminate with the final on January 3, marks a significant period in the darts calendar.

Reflecting on his achievements, Littler expressed ambitions to surpass Phil Taylor’s record of 11 world titles, emphasizing his dedication and belief in his capabilities.
