Teenage Daughter Saves Mother’s Life with CPR Training

Published on

A teenage girl rescued her mother’s life shortly after completing CPR training. Eliza Soward, 17, applied her newfound skills just six days after the course when her mother, Maggie, suffered a cardiac arrest at their home in Utah, Salt Lake City. Eliza’s quick response kept Maggie stable until paramedics arrived, preventing a fatal outcome.

Doctors emphasized that Maggie’s survival was largely due to Eliza’s prompt and proficient execution of CPR. Maggie, 46, expressed immense gratitude towards her daughter, acknowledging that without Eliza’s timely intervention, she could have suffered severe brain damage or even died. Following the incident, Maggie underwent a procedure to implant a defibrillator and spent nine days recuperating in the hospital.

Maggie’s husband, Scott, discovered her unconscious in their home and immediately sought Eliza’s help, who swiftly administered CPR until medical responders arrived. Despite a prolonged period without a pulse, Eliza’s actions were credited by medical professionals for sustaining Maggie’s life.

Reflecting on the incident, Maggie highlighted the significance of CPR awareness and credited her daughter with saving her life. As Thanksgiving approaches, Maggie shared that this year’s celebration holds special meaning, emphasizing the importance of CPR knowledge and the support received from family and neighbors during the critical situation.
