Rory McIlroy’s ex-girlfriend and former tennis world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki has been gushing about her NBA legend husband David Lee on social media. Wozniacki is expecting her third child with Lee and shared a couple of Instagram stories featuring her 41-year-old husband moving boxes – hinting at an upcoming move for the family.
However, she cheekily captioned one post: “The movers have gotten a lot hotter over the years”, accompanied by a winking face emoji – a possible subtle dig at her golfing-hero ex.
Wozniacki was in a relationship with the 2025 Masters winner from 2011 to 2013. However, despite announcing their engagement, McIlroy then ended things, stating he wasn’t ready for marriage.
While McIlroy, 35, has been lauded for his career grand slam victory at Augusta, it appears Wozniacki wasn’t among those cheering him on. Prior to the tournament, the former Australian Open champion couldn’t resist a slight dig, revealing in an ESPN interview that she was backing one of his rivals.
Wozniacki, who attended the Masters with Lee, said: “We pick one that we think has a big chance of winning, and that was [Ludvig] Aberg.”
While McIlroy managed eclipse Aberg, Wozniacki, seemed to throw another jab his way after McIlroy’s unsteady card of 72 in the first round of the event. “Watching someone who is so good at their craft I think has always been very inspiring,” she said.
“Whether it’s tennis, golf, at work, whatever it is. As a spectator, it’s always fun to see when the best in the world are struggling, and that’s what you get here.”
Wozniacki was previously engaged to McIlroy following a New Year’s Eve proposal in Sydney, with invitations having already been sent for their wedding. However, the Northern Irishman unexpectedly called off the engagement during a three-minute phone call.
McIlroy explained his reasons in a statement at the time, saying: “There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people. The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realise that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails.
“I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we’ve had. I will not be saying anything more about our relationship in any setting.”
Surprised by how sudden it unraveled, Wozniacki has confessed to being caught off guard. “I was shocked,” she previously said.
“I thought at least I would get a face-to-face or something, but there was nothing. It was a phone call, and I did not hear from him again. It kind of just ended.”
McIlroy has since branded the split as a “mutual”, as per the Express. Following the breakup, he found love with Erica Stoll, and the couple got hitched in 2017. They faced marital challenges last year, contemplating divorce, but decided to remain an item. The duo are parents to their four-year-old daughter Poppy.
Wozniacki met Lee in 2017 and by 2019, she had married the former Golden State Warriors star. They now have two children, James and Olivia.
