Tributes are being paid to a mother of two who tragically lost her life in a plane crash incident in Prince George. The victim, identified as Alex Garneau, was struck by a twin-engine Beech King Air 200 while driving along Foothills Boulevard. The aircraft landed on the road, crossed three lanes of traffic, and collided with four vehicles.
Garneau was actively involved in the community, especially in sports, where she participated as an athlete, coach, and volunteer, notably supporting her children’s sports teams. Described as a beloved figure, a fundraiser has been established to assist her family, highlighting her roles as a wife, daughter, sister, friend, and dedicated hockey mom.
Various social media posts from organizations she was associated with also expressed heartfelt sentiments towards Garneau, emphasizing her positive impact and infectious spirit. The fundraising campaign quickly raised over $100,000, with the proceeds intended to provide direct support to Garneau’s family.
The investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing, with the Transportation Safety Board taking charge. The plane, which experienced engine failure leading to the emergency landing, has been relocated to a nearby gravel pit for further examination. Although there were no injuries among the eight individuals onboard, questions remain regarding the circumstances that led to the plane’s forced landing.
Former TSB investigator Bill Yearwood raised concerns about the cause of the emergency landing, emphasizing pilots’ quick decision-making under such intense situations. The focus now shifts to uncovering the factors contributing to the incident and ensuring accountability in the aftermath.
