John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has assumed the position of Chair of the Board of Directors at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Expressing his enthusiasm, Tory conveyed his eagerness to collaborate with the board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to influence the organization’s future direction.

Tory’s tenure officially commences on October 1, as per a recent news release. Notably, this year’s festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position of Chair since 2021. Reflecting on his time with TIFF, Remedios expressed enduring pride in his contributions to the festival.

In addition to the leadership transition, TIFF announced the appointment of three new board members: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Furthermore, the organization bid farewell to Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, extending gratitude for her dedicated service and valuable contributions.
