A fatal shooting occurred at a rave in the northern Swiss canton of Aargau, resulting in one fatality and five injuries early on Sunday, as confirmed by local authorities and media outlets. The police are actively seeking the perpetrator while the motives behind the incident and the specific details surrounding the crime remain unclear.

According to the cantonal police, a 22-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while four men and one woman, aged between 24 and 27, were transported to the hospital with injuries varying from minor to severe. All the victims are Swiss residents, and their identities have not been disclosed to adhere to privacy regulations in Switzerland.

The police were notified about the shooting in the canton’s capital, Aarau, around 2:30 a.m., approximately 46 kilometers west of Zurich. The incident took place during the Aarau Rave VOL. 7 at the horse racing track in the Schachen district, leading to a significant police presence and emergency response on-site.

A manhunt is currently in progress, urging locals to avoid the area as authorities intensify their search efforts. The police operation, supported by firefighters and ambulances, is being conducted on a large scale. Additionally, authorities in Freiburg, Germany, are collaborating in the search for the suspect.

Eyewitnesses at the rave initially confused the gunshots for fireworks until instructed to take cover. The shooting occurred shortly after the rave concluded, prompting the police to relocate the remaining attendees to a nearby gymnasium for safety. Authorities have urged anyone with videos or photos related to the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.

The Aargau Racing Club, responsible for the venue, expressed profound sorrow over the tragic event and commended the swift and professional response of the emergency services. Swiss DJ Tekibo, who performed at the rave, expressed deep sadness over the incident, emphasizing that such violence contradicts the principles of freedom and safety that techno events aim to uphold.

Aarau, with a population of 22,300, is situated approximately 30 kilometers south of the German border. The community is now grappling with the aftermath of this unforeseen and distressing incident.
