Canada’s national police force announced on Monday that a 51-year-old man has been apprehended for allegedly issuing death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney. Marc-André Porlier, a resident of Montreal, faces charges of making threats to cause harm or death, as stated in an RCMP press release. The threats were reportedly conveyed through an email sent to various undisclosed recipients, including a senator, as mentioned by law enforcement officials.

In addition to the threats directed at Prime Minister Carney, the accused also made menacing remarks towards “all Canadian police officers,” according to the official charge sheet. Porlier had previously been convicted of arson and vandalism for setting a church ablaze in Toronto back in 2017, as confirmed by the police. He was serving probation for these offenses, according to an RCMP representative.

Porlier made a court appearance on Saturday, as indicated in the press release. It is important to note that the charges against him have not yet been proven in court.
