The most recent updates on the wildfires in British Columbia show that certain Summerland residents are now allowed to return home as an evacuation order has been partially lifted to an evacuation alert. This change affects hundreds of properties in the Pear Lake wildfire area, including the entire Village of Clinton. Similarly, evacuation orders in Peachland and Electoral Area West have been downgraded to alerts. Near the Quilpituk Creek wildfire, evacuation orders for properties from Cinnabar Creek to Westshore Estates have also been reduced to an evacuation alert.

The B.C. Wildfire Service reports that there are still over 100 active wildfires across the province. Currently, approximately 18,900 individuals are under evacuation orders, with an additional 10,000 on evacuation alert statewide.

In Summerland, where the Bald Range wildfire is active, the District of Summerland has allowed residents of around 400 properties in the Trout Creek neighborhood to return home as part of the evacuation order was downgraded to an alert. Similarly, in the Pear Lake wildfire area, more than 400 properties, including the Village of Clinton, are no longer under evacuation order but are under an evacuation alert.

A staged re-entry process is in place for evacuees returning to areas affected by the Quilpituk wildfire, with approximately 2,400 households impacted by the change from evacuation order to alert. Residents are advised to inspect their properties for any damage before returning home.

The Regional District of Central Okanagan is urging patience from evacuees affected by the Bald Range wildfire, which has covered a significant area. While some evacuees may not currently see intense fire activity near their communities, the situation could quickly change due to weather conditions.

Highway 97 has reopened with limited daytime hours, but officials caution that conditions may change rapidly. Air quality warnings are in effect in several parts of southern B.C., with the Fraser Valley under a high-risk air quality warning due to wildfire smoke.
