The Ottawa Rapid have named Carmelina Moscato, a former member of the Canadian national team, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. This announcement comes after current head coach Katrine Pedersen revealed her departure from the Northern Super League leaders at the end of the current season.

Moscato, a distinguished figure in Canadian soccer and a Canada Soccer Hall of Famer, brings extensive experience to the role. With a background that includes participation in three Women’s World Cups and a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics, Moscato has also coached in various countries such as Denmark, Mexico, and most recently Saudi Arabia.

Under a two-season agreement, Moscato will commence her tenure with the team this year, focusing on preparations for 2027, including player recruitment. Team CEO Thomas Gilbert expressed confidence in Moscato’s leadership qualities and knowledge of Canadian soccer, highlighting her as a valuable addition to the coaching staff.

“The Rapid has made significant strides in a short time frame,” said Gilbert in a press release. Moscato also shared her excitement about the opportunity, stating, “I am eager to contribute to the team’s growth and create an environment where players can excel, develop, and compete at the highest level.”

Currently leading the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 matches, Ottawa Rapid’s upcoming game is scheduled in Calgary this Saturday at 4 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on CBC Gem for fans to enjoy.
