Golfer David McDonald, an 85-year-old resident of Fall River, N.S., achieved a remarkable feat by shooting an even-par 72 at the challenging Ashburn Golf Club’s new course. Known for its long layout and large, speedy greens, the course presented a tough test for McDonald.

Reflecting on his accomplishment, McDonald expressed his excitement, mentioning that shooting a 72 had not been common for him lately. Despite typically playing from the silver tees, which are nearly 5,800 yards long, McDonald’s performance was exceptional, surpassing the usual standards of shooting one’s age in golf.

McDonald, who plays golf three to four times a week and often walks the course, emphasized the importance of staying active. Despite past health issues, he remains fit and enthusiastic about the game, attributing his success to regular exercise and healthy habits.

Peter Stirling, a friend of McDonald’s who witnessed his impressive round, commended McDonald’s dedication to fitness and shared anecdotes about their time on the course together. McDonald’s consistency and skill were evident during a recent round where he showcased his accuracy off the tee and strong putting game.

Having started golfing at the age of 30 while serving in the air force, McDonald quickly developed a passion for the sport, achieving success in military tournaments and winning national titles. Following his retirement from the military, McDonald continued his golfing journey, winning multiple provincial championships and earning a spot in the Cape Breton Sport Hall of Fame.

With 17 career holes-in-one under his belt, McDonald remains an avid golfer, always striving for new milestones. His commitment to fitness, healthy living, and the love for the game have been instrumental in his longevity and continued success on the golf course.
