“5 Riveting Books Defying Expectations Across Genres”

Published on

Being an avid reader, I have a habit of devouring books and can often go through multiple novels in a week. However, the more I read, the easier it becomes for me to anticipate the endings of most books.

While I don’t mind this predictability and enjoy a cliché-filled romance every now and then, discovering a book that exceeds all expectations is truly exhilarating. I welcome big plot twists, unexpected villains, and unconventional endings with open arms in my reading collection.

Here are five books I’ve read this year that kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last page, spanning across various genres like literary fiction, fantasy, science fiction, and non-fiction, as highlighted in a report by the Express.

The Rabbit Club introduces an American teenager who finds himself entangled in the mysterious and manipulative world of the Saracens, an exclusive secret society, upon arriving in Oxford.

His escalating ambition blurs the lines between reality and fantasy, setting off a series of events with far-reaching consequences beyond anyone’s imagination.

Reading this gripping dark academia thriller was a mind-bending experience, far darker and intricate than I had anticipated. The conclusion left me speechless, prompting me to immediately dive back into the book to uncover hidden details.

This book is a perfect choice for a deep dive during the autumn season.

In Joe Hill’s first novel in nearly a decade, King Sorrow, six friends make a deadly pact with a dragon. Over four decades, Arthur, Gwen, Colin, Donna, Van, and Allie must choose a new victim for King Sorrow each Easter, or face dire consequences themselves.

Despite its nearly 900-page length, one might assume parts of the novel could be tiresome or foreseeable. However, King Sorrow takes readers on a genre-defying journey, packed with unexpected twists and turns that caught me off guard.

While I received an early copy, this book will hit the shelves later this month.

Pre-order King Sorrow, available on October 21, here.

For fans of compelling narratives with morally ambiguous characters, Make Me Famous is a must-read. The story revolves around Cléo, an aspiring singer convinced of her inevitable rise to stardom.

We witness her journey to fame and follow her secluded island retreat to work on her fourth album after several successful releases. Twisted and enthralling, Make Me Famous takes a surprising turn that left me breathless.
