A train carrying approximately 150 passengers derailed in Germany, prompting a large-scale rescue operation. The incident occurred on the Augsburg – Buchloe – Füssen line near the Weizern-Hopferau station on Saturday afternoon, according to Bavarian Regional Railway (BRB).
The train, originating from Augsburg, derailed while transitioning to another track during its journey. The cause of the derailment remains unknown, and officials are investigating the circumstances leading to the train leaving the tracks.
Emergency services responded swiftly to evacuate all 150 passengers from the affected carriages. The process was time-consuming due to the significant number of travelers and the need to ensure the stability of the carriages. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported despite the busy service and disruption caused.
BRB announced the closure of the railway line following the incident, cautioning that the closure could be prolonged. Efforts to lift the derailed train back onto the tracks were initially scheduled for Sunday, but assessment of the damage is ongoing before any further actions can be taken.
